Abstract:

Astrocytes' complex branched anatomy is increasingly regarded as an important component of the cell's functional specification. We thus set out to deploy quantitative characterization of branching anatomy of hippocampal astrocytes, using descriptive statistics for multidimensional morphology data. Unsupervised clustering is deployed to identify structural signatures for different astrocytic morphologies. This classification will be used towards the construction of a template for the investigation of functional patterns of calcium signaling in relation to anatomical features.
